2022: Abstract Arlt: Historiography and Africa

Until the 1960s, the historiography of Africa did not play a significant role. In Huntington’s powerful and controversial publications in the 1990s, Africa played no real role. In contrast, UNESCO’s historiography project on Africa was fundamental. Thousands of chairs have been established at universities in the USA, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

With the 6th EU-Africa Summit, the conceptual metaphor of Africa, its position in the world, begins to fundamentally change. It’s about virtuality and new knowledge structures. The way to this has been paved by historiography, literatures and the arts.
