Dachaulied – La Canzone di Dachau
In memoriam Fabrizio Cambi
The article is related to the culture of remembrance in at least two respects: On the one hand, because the Dachau Song in its Italian translations could offer an extraordinary opportunity to be integrated into the activities and events of 27 January, the International Day of Remembrance of the Shoah, which is celebrated throughout Italy as Giorno della Memoria from primary schools upwards: a procedure in this regard is explained. And on the other hand, the different translations of the text are compared with each other and traced back to their first complete one, published in 1983 by Fabrizio Cambi in his bilingual anthology of poems by Jura Soyfer, Strofe del tempo / Zeitstrophen. A most opportune occasion to commemorate, one year after his early death, the great Germanist and translator who, like no other, ensured the dissemination of Soyfer’s work in Italy.
