Publics for Jura Soyfer in the times of Pandemics

Deutsch

Herbert Arlt (Vienna | Wien)

In the context of the 29 Soyfer Symposions the participants cover a range of topics: lies (Astoria), world threats in the age of world communication (The end of the world), lifeless cities and the vibrant simmering, multilingualism and polyphony, regional and transnational public spaces in times of emergency, opportunities in the age of pandemics.

Within the framework of a symposion in Vienna, Weimar, Buchenwald Memorial, Jena, the epidemic in the Buchenwald concentration camp was analysed by Harry Stein. In the documentation on these cross-border events Jura Soyfer (1912-1939) for commemoration, Stein goes into detail about the causes of the epidemic in the Buchenwald concentration camp on the basis of files. This article shows that the death of Soyfer from typhus was not accidental, but part of the terror. The documentary also shows that even in the face of this murderous terror, resistance was possible and Soyfer was part of the resistence in the concentration camp.

Further details with links to sources in German can be found in the essay in German (see link above). Most important for the upcoming years will be to publish some hundreds scientific contributions and thousands of documents, but also to expand the Jura Soyfer Homepage in Arab, English, French and other languages. There is the need for that because of the interest, the teaching, the art projects.
